Apology

Apology was a very interesting reading, although at times it was hard to follow due to the many characters in it. I think that the method Socrates chose to defend him self was very smart. I was not intrigued by the reading until he began to defend himself in such a way that he never truly apologized for anything that he had (or hadn't) done. He merely defended himself with what he claimed to be "honesty and directness" and gained most of his support from the younger generations because the elders had been accustomed to their beliefs for such a long time that they refused to see any other perspectives. Socrates died for what he believed in and had spread a lot of knowledge throughout the youth just as he wanted. I think that the reading is a true inspiration for us to find out what truly is "right." He never settled for what others thought and as he was confronted he never backed down and he maintained his composure in a humbling way even though the event was leading to his death.

  1. I like your comment about the reading being inspirational, its already begun to make me question things I've always taken for granted. I think he really hoped that at the very least, what he said could incite the youth to analyze things presented to them based upon facts rather than who was doing the presenting.

  2. I agree with the way you said Socrates would never say his beliefs were wrong and he continued to stand up for what he thought was right all the way until he died, I thought this idea was a maor art of the reading.

  3. I completely agree with you on the two main points of your writing. The first being that the reading was difficult to manage due to all of the characters coming and going. It's not that I couldn't grasp it, it was just a hassle at points. The other point is with Socrates and his way of challenging everything that he thought needed to be changed. This examination is, in my opinion, something this society desperately needs.
