Blogging Guidelines

At minimum (students are encouraged to blog as often as they can/wish), students must blog weekly about the upcoming week's readings by 8 p.m. every Sunday (beginning September 2nd).  Blog entries will grapple with some point from the week's material in a critical way ("I liked it" is not appropriate - tell me why you liked it [or hated it]).   I am not giving specific length requirements for these entries but will make specifications if the class as a whole is doing too little.  I want you to feel free to write in your own voice and in a way that helps you expand your knowledge of the material.

Feel free to bring in outside resources or readings, but please note that I do expect you to give credit when ideas are not your own.  This is not to say I am expecting formal citations, but if something isn't yours, tell us whose it is.

At minimum, students will respond to two of their peers' posts by 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Responses will directly address the points made in the blog entry (a simple "Great job!" will not suffice).  Students are encouraged to respond to multiple entries and to enter into conversation with one another.

I will send you emails periodically letting you know how you stand on this requirement, namely whether you are producing satisfactory work or if I am expecting more.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
