In Plato's Ion, Socrates is having a discussion with a man named Ion about rhapsode which is a professional reciter for Homer's poetry and other poets of Greece. Ion tells Socrates about Homer's poems and also speaks well of Homer. Socrates asks Ion basically why Homer is different from other poets such as Hesiod. For example Socrates questions Ion about divination. He goes back and forth asking Ion who would write it better and speak it better.
Socrates also states that rhapsode is not acted by rules of art but inspired by people with mysterious powers from the poet and the poets are inspired by God. After reading the dialogue between Ion and Socrates I think Socrates is so wise with his words. He seems to understand people and not just that but also the logic behind everything. For me this read was easier than the Apology although I did enjoy understanding it more later after reading it and listening in class.
I agree that Socrates is very talented with his words and how he uses them. I think he is a little arrogant sometimes, picking arguments that don't really mean anything.
