Socrates Apology

Socrates was intriguing to me. The way he was known so well but never really wanted to be known.  It was been hard to find solid information on what he said in his speech or about even about him. His out look on life  was beautiful in it's own way. So far out of the box in a time where women were taken for granted or looked down on, but his view of them was very different. Along  with many other things. Making him interesting the read about.
I love the Apology because " Actually the word means not an apology but a defense speech in legal proceddding and thaat is what we get- certainly socrates does not apologize for anything." page. 17 Socrates is being an individual thinker and going againist the grain. He stood for what he believed no matter what the cost, ultimatly costing him a punishment that lead to death. Going againist the Olympian Gods in Athens was not okay. was saying what he believed to be truein a brutally honest way worth the result of death was not. What he said needed to be heard, and in no way  did he deseve loosing his life for voicing a strong but much needed opionion.

  1. agree with Chafelmer's second paragraph. Socrates was a very out spoken man for his time and said things that were not considered that day and age. But the things he did say opened up the people's minds and changed their insight of the world. But the Anthens society could only tolerate but so much of this new way of thinking. It is a shame as Chefelmer said since he did have such a great mind and such great insight.

  2. Great post, Chafelmer! Great analysis of what he said v. the actual outcome.
