protagoras

Once again Protagoras was to much for me, Not in the fact that it was hard to understand or had a challenging dialog it was just too long. I always feel like they could easily say what they had to say in just a few pages instead of 1045. But on a lighter note Socrates is definatly growing on me. His way of arguing and making his point with strong evidence is pretty cool. Honestly im not really sure with who I agree with, in some cases I believe that virture can be tought and there are some that I beleive cant be tought but are learned by oneself.

  1. I agree that this reading was way too long but it did have a lot of good points about virtue. I changed my mind at the end of the reading and decided that virtue is in fact knowledge which means it is teachable.

  2. The reading was ridiculously long, and definitely could have been condensed. However, I thought that the reading was interesting and did have good points to it.

  3. I agree with you all that the reading was very long but I think your right that sometimes virtue is taught and other times it is something you just learn by yourself.

  4. Also, I agree that the reading is entirely too long. I think we can all learn several things from this though. I especially liked the fact that he said knowledge is the best form of beauty.

  5. I'm glad that in spite of the length (you do know we're reading whole books later on in the semester, right?) you were able to find some merit in Socrates. Good post.
