I found this article very interesting in the way that it
resembled our own law system today. Hobbes spoke of how we “should not do to
others that we do not want done to us” a statement that I was taught as a
child, as were many of many friends. He also spoke of the laws of nature which
we can find in our law system today. These laws of natures are more like just
every day morals that the majority of people have been taught since birth: don’t
break your promises or don’t act on the idea of an eye for an eye. I also found
the arbiter laws very interesting, considering we practice those every day in
our judicial branch. While this article was a little long for my liking, I did
in fact enjoy its content. I also thoroughly enjoyed all the comparisons I was
able to make from Hobbes’s Leviathan to America’s present day legal system.
Great synopsis!
