Hobbes-Leviathan

Chapter 13 and 15 of Hobbes' Leviathan were the most interesting to me. Chapter 13 was concerned with the natural condition of mankind regarding happiness and misery. Hobbes stated competition, distrust, and glory are three factors that are all naturally occur in shaping human natural condition. Competition will be inevitable when two men want the same goal and only one can obtain it. The glory from the victories will cause a sense of pride that will lead to distrust and what I would consider slight paranoia. When an individual is on top they will gain distrust for others thinking they are attempting to get over on them in some way. Although it wad written a years ago, I believe it is still accurate in modern day society. I enjoy reading material regarding human behavior and found it interesting.  From what I recall looking back on situations I notice individuals acting the way Hobbes described. Chapter 15 was interesting because I was unaware of many of the other Natural Laws, I did not know there were 19. It was interesting reading many of them.

  1. Hobbes has 19, but there are many other versions. We may encounter some this semester. Good post!
