I thought the Apology was a fairly easy read to comprehend. I liked how Socrates told the gentlemen that he was going to speak in the language he uses in the market. That tells me he is going to tell it how it is and not suck up to anyone. The first vote on his verdict was guilty by a slim margin of only 30 men. Socrates then goes on a rant about how he doesn't deserve to be convicted guilty and that he should be given meals in the Prytaneum. He shoots himself in the foot by being somewhat of a smart ass saying those things. The vote of putting him to death was almost a unanimous decision. That decision shows that the people in the court didn't think very highly of his remarks.
I like what Aaron is saying i totally agree. i thought it was neat also that the vote completely agree!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that him saying that he was going to speak in his everyday language meant he was going to be honest and straight up. Unfortunately for him being too honest ended biting him in the butt and got sentenced to death! I totally agree with you Aaron.
ReplyDeleteGreat points, Aaron. Just give me a little bit more of what you think about these excellent examples you've pulled out!
