Having taken a philosophy course before, Plato’s Apology is
not foreign to me. I always find his writings and his way of thinking to be
very interesting. What surprises me is how, in the beginning, Socrates states
that he isn’t a very good speaker. He is either very humble, or blind. Using
the support from the youth, he tried to show the older people a new way to view
things which is why I think he framed answers in the form of a question. I did
find the reading to be, yet again, a little confusing and hard to follow. There
were a lot of characters to keep up with. However it was clear that he stood
for what he believed in and never backed down.
After i got done reading the whole thing, I was surprised too that he said he was not a good speaker. I wonder if he did that to surprise us? Or maybe he did that just to make himself look better.
