I thought that this reading was pretty interesting from time to time although I had to sit and think about each point Schmitt was making. In Schmitt's Political Theory he argues that in political values are based on sovereignty. He describes it as an exception and to decide whether it exists or not. I think his purpose for writing this had to do with how the government needs to maintain order and structure.
I agree with Alanna. Schmitt's work does make you stop and think about certain points that he makes. It was a book the challenged the reader instead of just informing them.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It was a little bit more of a difficult reading but he made valid points on keeping the government (the sovereign) from being corrupt
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a difficult read, in comparison to others so far. I particularly like his idea of the 'exception', being the point of highest political/economical turmoil where something drastic must be done.
ReplyDeleteI really think Schmitt was dead on with the government needing to keep order, but staying out of everyday affairs.
